About Me
Academic writing and presenting are hard. Not because you lack intelligence or ideas, but because our institutions of higher education don’t always explicitly teach what goes into making our science communication compelling, and clear for various kinds of audiences. As researchers, we figure it out for ourselves through (often too many) hours of trial and error—or they don’t.

That’s where I come in. I like to fill that gap. Through editing, coaching, and hands-on training, I like to help researchers at any level get to the center of their research narratives and science stories and communicate their work effectively to any audience in any format.
This is what I love to do: get to know students and researchers across all kinds of disciplines and talk with them about their work. To do that, and to see their skills sharpen.
Since I began this line of work some eight or so years ago, I’ve had the luck and pleasure of teaching and coaching PhD candidates as well as Master’s and Bachelor’s students at universities and institutions such as VU Amsterdam, TU Delft, AUMC, NIOZ, NWO, Leiden UMC, and others. Sometimes these are courses spanning several weeks. Sometimes they are short and sweet workshops. Sometimes they are individual coaching sessions. And they are always fun and fruitfull.
I hold a pair of Master’s degrees in sociology and social science, where I focused heavily on communication science, with a particular interest in dissecting scientific narratives and science stories. Perhaps my Bachelor’s degree in creative writing had a bit of an influence on my topical choices. Whatever may have influenced these choices, it’s a pleasure to turn those skills to helping you sharpen your own.
